If you’re like our multigenerational family, we spend the first part of the year planning, coordinating everyone’s schedule, and then booking our next family vacation. Yes, that one time that we get to hop on the plane and go to the destination of our choice is the best time of the year. But that time of the year only comes round once, maybe twice if you’re lucky. 1. Pick Your Road Trip Route

There are two personalities for road trippers! Which one are you?

Are you the person who plans out the route that they’re going to take? Or do you prefer to leave the road trip a complete mystery, creating the whole thing a pick as you go? Personally, I am a little of both. I like to know where is my final destination, but I don’t mind meandering off the beaten path to explore.

For those of you who like a bit of organization, start with a good idea of where you want to go — or at least your destination at the end of the day. Consider the types of things that you would like to do, and try and keep it varied.

A good route to see might include a stop at the beach, visit a cool city that you’ve never done before, and visit an area that takes you back to nature. If you can hit all three of these, you’ll have a road trip filled with all sorts of fun. A long weekend is all you need to hit the three of these locations, you just need to find the ones that suit you.

Perhaps you might want to actually park the car and explore your destination with a local? Make it a family fun day, for example, by leaving the driving to someone else, and traveling to Lubbock by party bus.

2. Road Trips Tips for Families: Things To Consider

There are plenty of things to consider, but especially when traveling with family, taking your eyes off the road can be dangerous when you don’t know where you’re going.

A car accident lawyer will tell you that so many people involved in accidents are involved because they don’t know where they are going, and are too busy looking at their navigation on their phone or car, rather than watching the road.

Always make sure you have a good navigator in the passenger seat to help you, and take your time to understand where you’re going.

3. Keeping It Cheap

We’ve suggested a road trip because planning a full-blown family vacation would be more expensive, so to make sure you keep it cheap, consider taking a tent or pulling a trailer, and camping wherever you go, rather than jumping into a hotel. It will cut the cost tremendously, and it’s actually a far better experience!

  1. Enjoyed reading your article about the cheap road trips. We also plan minimum one long road trip in a year. I remember my first road trip to Pushkar with my collegues. We rented a car for a month and traveled Gujarat to Pushkar. We faced a lot of difficulties but also learnt so many things.
