5 Top Luxurious Safari Resorts in Africa

For many of us, a safari vacation has been something we’ve been desperate to tick off our bucket list for years. There’s just something so appealing about being at one with nature, out in the plains of Africa. If you’re not the kind of person who wants to slum it in a tent in the bush (we don’t blame you), then you may be looking for luxurious safari resorts in Africa. Here are just 5 top luxurious safari resorts in Africa that you should add to your wish list.

1. Pondoro Game Lodge

If you read our previous post about the best ways to experience Africa, you’ll know that we have mentioned this safari resort before. Situated in the Balule Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park, Pondoro Game Lodge is the height of sophistication. It’s no surprise it has won so many awards!

There are just five suites here, meaning you’ll be treated to an almost exclusive luxury experience when you stay here. You’ll also get your own private patio, views of the river, and expert guides who will help you see all of the wildlife you want to see.

2. Marataba Safari Lodge

How about another deluxe resort situated within a National Park? This time, Marakele National Park in Waterberg and the Marataba Safari Lodge. There are 15 tented suites, with huge baths made out of stone, and a real modern African theme running throughout. Head out to your private deck as the sun sets for some truly stunning views across the landscape.

We’d recommend pairing this kind of lodge with an entire South Africa safari package, so that you can enjoy all of the sights of this beautiful country – including all of the animals, of course.

3. Madikwe Hills, Leopard Hills and Kings Camp

Not only is this one of the most luxurious safari resorts in Africa, but it is also one of the most expensive! However, you certainly get what you pay for here. You’ll stay in not one, not two, but three different lodges during the 8-night luxury bush trilogy safari offered by Seasons in Africa.

The first lodge is Madikwe Hills, which is on the border of Botswana – and a perfect place for spotting the rare Wild Dog.

Next, you’ll head to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve where you’ll be indulged with pampering treatments and luxurious safari experience. Finally, you’ll head to Timbavati Private Nature Reserve to stay in Kings Camp.

4. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

This is the kind of safari resort that has to be seen to be believed. Situated in Tanzania on the edge of the World Heritage Site of the Ngorongoro Crater, the staff at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge really know how to do luxury. You’ll be treated to some of the best views in Africa, alongside five-star service. Inside the lodge, you’ll find opulent interior design including brocade sofas to lounge around on and beaded chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. This is the perfect place for some R & R after an exhilarating safari experience.

5. Little Kulala

You’ll find the Kulala Desert Lodge on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve in Namibia, with stunning views across the desert landscape. The first thing that will catch your eye is that each thatched lodge comes with a private plunge pool – perfect for when the temperatures are soaring. There is also an entertainment area which comes with a wine cellar, library and craft boutique. Each lodge is modeled on the breathtaking Dead Vlei white clay pan nearby.

These are just five of the most luxurious resorts in Africa. You can discover plenty more if you know where to look. If you want somewhere stunning after a day spotting wildlife, these are some of the best luxurious safari resorts in Africa. Do you have anywhere else to add to the list? 1. We’ve never gone the luxury route while traveling, but I can certainly see the appeal after a long, hot, dusty safari day. Those private patios and plunge pools sound like they’d be heaven on the African Savannah!
