Over 50 doesn't mean you still don't got style and trends in western wear for women make it easy.
Being over 50 doesn’t mean Western wear isn’t also stylish and fashionable for all ages.

Start with the 5-4-3-2-2 Packing Rule

Years of travel have taught me one valuable lesson: fellow travelers rarely recall what you wore yesterday — or even today.

Keep all of your items within one color palette. This makes it easier to swap out clothing while still appearing to be a “new” outfit. Swap out accessories based on your destination and type of travel

Use the 5-4-3-2-1 packing method, which includes five tops, four bottoms, three accessories, two shoes, and one swimsuit. Personally, when I’m on longer trips, such as my recent 2-week exploration starting with 2 days in Athens, a 7-day Princess Mediterranean Cruise, followed by 24 hours in Barcelona, Spain, I doubled this packing method. (I know, I’m a wild child, right?)

Prioritize Comfort Without Sacrificing Style

While the temptation to pack that pair of shoes that looks fabulous but feels like a torture device after an hour is real, make an effort to resist it. (TIP: Keep your shoes simple!) When traveling, you’ll likely spend extended hours walking, exploring, or even just waiting at terminals.

Opt for clothing that allows freedom of movement, such as stretchy fabrics, moisture-wicking, breathable materials, easy-care fabrics, and well-fitted pieces. Look for wrinkle-resistant materials like nylon and spandex. Flowy dresses, relaxed-fit trousers, and cushioned footwear can be both comfortable and stylish. Choose versatile pieces that can be worn from day to night

Remember, the key is to choose pieces that make you feel good both inside and out.

Accessorize Smartly

Accessories elevate a basic outfit to something special and unique. However, for travel, it’s crucial to select pieces that aren’t just fashionable but functional.

For example, you can get multipurpose scarves that can double up as a blanket, hats that protect against harsh sun rays, and versatile handbags and accessories from designers like Lemaire at ssense.com. Lemaire offers accessories that will complement your look uniquely.

And remember, when it comes to jewelry, you should opt for minimalism. This not only lightens your luggage but also speeds up the airport security process.

Consider Layering

Layering is not just a fashion statement, but a traveler’s best friend.

The art of layering caters to unpredictable weather conditions and varying indoor-outdoor temperatures. Begin with a basic tee or tank top and add layers like a lightweight long-sleeve shirt, cardigan, or denim jacket. T

his approach allows you to remove or add pieces according to the climate, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout the day. Additionally, layering offers the advantage of creating multiple looks with a limited set of clothes, saving valuable suitcase space.

For colder destinations, a thermal base layer can provide added warmth without the bulk of heavy sweaters.

Choose The Right Footwear

Selecting the perfect pair of shoes for travel is crucial — and I LOVE my shoes!

Yet, travelers need to consider the terrain they’ll be navigating. City breaks may require comfy yet chic flats or versatile sneakers that complement both dresses and jeans. If you’re heading to the beach, opt for breathable sandals or espadrilles.

For rugged adventures or nature treks, supportive hiking boots or trail shoes are a must. It’s tempting to pack multiple pairs but limit yourself to two or three versatile options that match various outfits.

TIP: Always remember to break in new shoes before your trip to avoid painful blisters or discomfort.
