Best Gifts for Grandparents who Travel
Table of Contents
Gift giving is a talent, and my oldest daughter is actually really good at knowing exactly what to purchase for everyone. But not everyone is so blessed with that gift of giving. For those wanting to take care of the “older” family members, we’ve got a list of the best gifts for grandparents who travel.

Ring Video Doorbell
For those who love to travel and perhaps (like us) with an elderly parent living with us (but not traveling with us), we’ve installed a Ring Video Doorbell at the top of our list. When the doorbell is pressed AND when motion is detected, it sends alerts via its app, allowing us to hear and speak with visitors’ two-way talk.
We especially like the Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell, because it works with Alexa. It works on any home, and when we travel we can also take a look at our front porch with Live View on-demand video. The Lifetime Theft protection is an added bonus — if the Doorbell gets stolen, it is replaced for free.
All Ring devices do not require additional fees or subscriptions to operate, but there are some Video Recording plans available for additional fees, which you may want to consider especially for those who travel frequently.
Luggage Sets
Still one of my all-time top gifts from my daughter was a 3-piece set of luggage, and the best part of the gift was that the color of the luggage wasn’t black. It was burgundy. Now I have multiple sets of luggage, and none of them are black. That made it easier for me to find my luggage in a sea of black suitcases. Pick a color, any color except black, and you’ll have the perfect set of luggage for your grandparents.
Tablet – Kindle
Shhh, I just a Kindle Fire 10 for my husband. It’s perfect as he likes to watch sports and news on his cell phone when out and about and sitting in the hot tub — and the Kindle offers a larger viewing screen (10.1″ 1080p full HD display).
Book Club Membership
Yes, I’m that Grandma who LOVES to read! And I really do prefer to read actual books, so why not give your grandparents the gift of reading with a subscription to BookoftheMonth.com Club? It’s inexpensive (just $14.99 per month) and it’s a gift that keeps giving all year. Subscriptions are available for 3 months, 6 months & 12 months.
Wireless Earbuds
The most obvious of gifts for grandparents who travel are wireless earbuds. There are so many different types and price points, but this wireless earbud with Bluetooth is one of my top choices.
Travel Pillows
It’s nearly impossible to actually rest on a plane, but a travel pillow can help. Refer to this post – Best Travel Pillows for the Long Haul for tips on finding the perfect one for your grandparents. For those who want a quick answer, I’d suggest the Cabeau Evolution S3 travel pillow.
I’m also a fan of scarf travel pillows, as I’m always chilly on airplanes and the added benefit is it keeps me warm!
Travel Scarf with Hidden Pockets
One can never have enough pockets when traveling, right? This travel scarf is perfect as it has hidden pockets for your cash, passport, or other important documents.
Comfortable Travel Clothes
Grandma likes to travel and she likes to look good too, but airplane travel is just not comfy. Gift her with stylish and comfortable travel clothes like this 2-piece Knit pullover sweater top and pants outfit.
While Grandpa may not care as much how he looks, he still wants to travel in comfort, so make it a pair of comfortable traveling clothes for your grandparents. Start with a comfy and warm pickpocket-proof sweater SCOTTeVEST with 3 pockets or if he prefers something lighter a SCOTTeVEST. Add in a stylish, lightweight, comfort travel tech chino pants.
Personalized Luggage Tags
If your grandparents are traveling, personalized luggage tags will make their journey simpler as these heavy-duty solid brass and leather luggage tags will last!
Travel-Themed Fun Shoes
Sometimes even grandparents just want to be silly and celebrate their travels. Consider purchasing travel-themed fun shoes with maps, like these, for Grandma
Passport Book with Built-in Cell Charger
I admit it — I couldn’t wait for someone to gift me with this, so I ordered it for myself. Happy me. This passport wallet book includes a built-in cell charger with slots for credit cards. Love it!
Customized Phone Case
Phones are indispensable when traveling. Not only are they useful for contacting family and friends, but they also help you find locations, book accommodations, check the weather, take photos, and do a lot more.
Your grandparents probably bring their phones on their travels too.
Make sure these nifty gadgets are well-protected by giving your grandparents customized phone cases. Create unique phone cases by adding photos, monograms, quotes, and stickers. Grandma and grandpa are going to love the personal touch!
Travel World Maps to Display
Perhaps the quintessential gift for any traveler, especially grandparents, is the opportunity to share their love of travel by showing where their journeys have landed them. Give a travel world map with a corkboard to a traveling enthusiast – that’s the perfect gift! The map can be used to pin postcards, photos, tickets, and other souvenirs. And perhaps this is a great place to share the journeys and memories you take with your grandparents?
