Tips for a Happy and Healthy New Year

For the last two years, I broke my steadfast tradition of NOT making New Year’s resolutions and actually made New Year’s resolutions worth keeping. Both times my resolutions included becoming a happier and healthier person. The usual — eating healthier and exercising regularly.  This post includes simple tips for a happy and healthy New Year.

1. Regular Visits to the Dentist

While this may seem simple, visiting the dentist regularly is important to your health. Most people do not visit the dentist anywhere near as much as they should do. When younger, we visited the dentist regularly because our parents took us, right? As we get older, the appointments get fewer and fewer. I’m guilty of this mostly due to a busy schedule.

Dentists can help with so many different things, from fixing your inability to chew to help you to have a whiter and brighter smile. If you don’t already have one, find a good dentist. Ask for recommendations from your friends.  Be sure to visit twice a year to ensure your teeth look amazing and that they are strong too.

2. Find Ways to Have a Better Night’s Sleep

Get a good night's sleep to become happy and healthy in the New Year.

One thing that people do not seem to get enough of these days is sleep. If you are someone who falls into this category, your New Year’s Resolution should be getting more sleep. But how are you supposed to do this? Here are a number of different options to consider.

The first step to take is to go to bed and wake up at the same time every evening. This helps you to get into a routine, which makes it easier for you to fall asleep and then stay asleep.

One of the reasons that might prevent you from sleeping well is that your bedroom isn’t conducive to falling asleep.  Create a bedroom as relaxing and serene as possible.

In addition to this, at least an hour before going to bed, discontinue the use of technology before you go to bed. If you’re someone who browses their phone while trying to go to sleep, it is time to stop!

There are a number of other steps you can take in order to get more sleep at night. This includes keeping a journal at night. Writing down a few thoughts can help you to offload, ensuring you do not carry these thoughts with you when you are trying to get to sleep. This is especially beneficial if you are someone who finds themselves lying awake at night worrying about a ton of different things.

3. Try a New Type of Exercise

One of the biggest problems people experience when it comes to working out is staying motivated. And, one of the most difficult things about staying motivated is struggling with boredom. A lot of people have great zest of energy when they start exercising at first. However, this can start to fade away after a few months or even weeks. In fact, for some people, a few days exercising is enough to make them feel incredibly bored.

Does this sound familiar? If so, commit yourself to try a new exercise in 2020. There are so many different exciting exercises to try, from yoga to army boot camps. You are bound to find something that suits you.

4. Add Green Tea to Your Diet

Matcha is a high-grade green tea ground into powdered form. The green tea powder is whisked into hot water, instead of steeped, to form a frothy drink. The meditative act of preparing, presenting, and sipping matcha is the backbone of the Japanese tea ceremony

Reap the rewards of weight loss assistance, better skin, increased energy, and more with matcha! A lot of people are surprised by the sheer number of benefits that are associated with this vibrant green tea. Read on to discover everything you need to know about matcha.

The biggest benefit is the sheer number of antioxidants present within Matcha powder. Research has shown that Matcha has 137 times the antioxidants found within green tea. The most notable of all of these antioxidants is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), believed to have cancer-fighting properties.

Matcha can also help to promote healthy skin due to the presence of EGCg, which reduces free radicals and inflammation that are responsible for speeding up the process of skin aging.

Drinking Matcha is also a great way to detoxify the body. The presence of Chlorophyll helps to eliminate toxins and heavy metals. You can also benefit from improved brainpower too, as L-Theanine is known to stimulate alpha brain waves. These brain waves can improve concentration and focus yet they do so in a relaxed state, as opposed to coffee, for example, creating jittery energy.

And the bonus? This special green tea can also assist with weight loss because it lowers the formation of new fat cells while also boosting the rate at which fat is burned.

5. Pay Yourself a Compliment Every Day

It is easy to get stressed and down in the current day and age. Life is lived at such a fast pace and there seems to be more stressed than ever before. If this sounds familiar, you really need to focus on your mental health and the different things you can do to feel better in this regard.

One of the most simple yet effective solutions is to pay yourself a compliment once a day. Say something nice about yourself and genuinely mean it. You will be surprised by the impact this has on your self-esteem. If you need help boosting your self-esteem, consider reaching out to a therapist at BetterHelp.

Yes, it’s that simple. Here’s to a happy and healthy New Year.
